Watchful Eye

A day old avocet chick explores while mom stands guard in the background. We patiently (well, kinda) waited for a particular nesting pair to have their young as the nest was very close to the viewing platform, figuring that when the parents took the chicks to water, it would be right in front of us. They did not disappoint!
