This is how it's done?

A young cow moose (I'll call her the teenager) watches intently as an older cow flails away in the lake. The cow in the foreground decided after a while to head to deeper water. For whatever reason, she began to splash wildly, frothing the water and making deep kerplunking noises with her feet. We couldn't figure out if she was distressed or splashing about to bring more food to the surface. In any event, it was very entertaining to watch. This was one of the few shots in this sequence where I was able to capture a clear shot of her eye without being covered up by water drops.

Mind if I join you?

A young bull moose emerges from behind a tree and seems to be asking the three cows down by the lake if he can join them for an evening meal. As he came down, I could see he was covered in bugs, no doubt of the biting variety. I'm sure the lake not only served as a place to eat and cool off, it also offered relief from the swarming hoards. It was so cool to watch this young fellow interact with the other cow moose.

Hello There!

By far the most memorable moment of our recent trip. As the young bull from my last post made his way down to the lake, the "teenaged" cow came up to greet him. They sniffed noses for a while and then both made their way down to the lake. Young love? The romantic in me likes to think so.

No seriously - Is there something on my face?

This young bull was so much fun to observe as he happily fed on water plants. His face was so expressive and he definitely liked to show off those teeth as he ate. Most of the time he was wearing some of his meal on his nose!

Delicious and Nutritious!

A young bull moose wears part of its evening meal as a "hood ornament" as it blissfully feeds in a Colorado mountain lake. He was a very exuberant feeder as he happily munched and splashed about and was totally oblivious to us as we sat by the lake's shoreline.

Lazy Days

A big bull moose enjoys the afternoon sun on a lazy, early fall afternoon in Grand Teton National Park.
