How do birds stay warm in really cold weather? The temperature when I captured these two bushtits was a balmy -8 F. These little birds weigh about 6 grams or 0.2 ounces, about the same weight as a quarter. I am amazed they don't freeze in such weather. They were in constant motion as they sat huddled together. I felt so sorry for them!
